Anxiety, Depression, and Grief Counseling in Columbia, MO for Adult Children and Families of Seniors

Therapy for Concerned Family Members

You know your family member hasn’t been doing well.  After they were diagnosed, they haven’t been the same.  At times they are angry and at times they are so sad it breaks your heart.  Every time you leave a visit with them or hang up the phone, you start to cry because you want things to be different.  It feels like you are losing the closest person in the world to you, one degree at a time.

Knowing what to do for your Senior is so hard now

You want to help them and see them have a better life, but you don’t know what to do.  It is a fine line that you walk because you don’t want to tread on their autonomy.  Several times you almost asked them if they wanted help.  However, the words just wouldn’t come out.  You feel the stress affecting every part of your life.

You worry these feelings will keep you from doing the “right” thing.  You don’t want to neglect them and it wakes you up at night worrying about what to do.

You notice the stress affecting every part of your life. You worry about your loved one, and you wish things were like they were before, Sometimes anger, guilt, and constant worry dominates your thoughts.

You just know you can’t go on like this much longer, but you don’t know what to do.

Counseling can help you feel better about a situation that doesn’t have a clear solution

Through weekly sessions, you will have a place to explore your feelings. I will help you learn to hold on to what you can control and let go of what you can’t control. Over time, you will feel more direction and less stressed. Feeling more peaceful about what is happening will help you maintain the super important relationship you have with your loved one.

I have worked in Long Term Care facilities and Hospitals with many Seniors and their families. I will use my understanding of processes in the medical field and my skills as a therapist to help you have more clarity and feel less anxiety, depression, and worry. This will be your space and time to say what you need to say. To say things that others wouldn’t understand. You will also be able to talk about what it is like to lose your closest loved one a piece at a time.

After the first session, you will be able to implement what you learn.   Over time you will feel a sense of direction about how to help your loved one and worry less if you are doing the right thing.
